Brass non return valves are used to prevent backflow in a system. They are normally fitted close to the source and prevent the liquid running out of the system when the pump stops (or when pressure is lost)
These valves are typically fitted on (or near) a pump - preventing water draining out of the system, protecting the pump and ensuring that it remains primed
Occasionally they are used to prevent liquid passing in a certain direction, this is common for pump control:
E.g: in a 2 pump system, where the systems needs to be able to run in two modes:
one pump mode
